Not to speak for Jim, but if you ask somebody not to do P, doesn't it logically follow that you believe they are both able and, under the right conditions, willing to do P? Otherwise, what is the point of asking that individual not to do P? In this case, P = "lead us into temptation."

But now we are encroaching upon B-Greek territory.

I'm sorry but maybe I've missed the point of your quotation. Shoshanna was
suggesting that Yah purposefully created bad messengers whose purpose was
to tempt mankind and trick them into doing what is bad.
Jesus here is asking Yah to protect us from temptations *not* bring them on
so that we can prove how good we are.

This is an interesting observation. And if you are correct, this would
mean that Yah is the original source of such temptations.

What biblical/traditional evidences lead you to such a firm conclusion?

"and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil......" Jesus
of Nazareth.
