An earlier post here made the observation that a distinction should be
made between "revelation" (the process by which God communicates with
someone) and "inspiration" (the process by which God superintends the
writing down or "inscripturation" of a revelation).

There are numerous accounts of revelation in the Hebrew Scriptures.
Perhaps the best place to get an idea of how ancient Israel regarded the
"work-product," i.e. written documents which were believed to contain
the record of revelation, is the Psalms. This is where ancient Israel
expressed its piety. Two psalms come to mind in this regard-Psalm 19 and
119 (which D. N. Freedman has called the "apotheosis of the Torah").

Psalm 19 reads in part:

Psalm 19:7-11 7 (19-8) The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the
soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. 8
(19-9) The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the
commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9 (19-10) The
fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever; the ordinances of the LORD
are true, they are righteous altogether; 10 (19-11) More to be desired
are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey
and the honeycomb. 11 (19-12) Moreover by them is Thy servant warned;
in keeping of them there is great reward. (JPS).
