Asherah continued to be "special" to women up to the 1st century. I have a
statuette of her from the late 2nd temple period. I recommend:
The Cult of Asherah in Ancient Israel and Judah: Evidence for a Hebrew
Goddess. Judith M. Hadley
The Hebrew Goddess by Raphael Patai.

Like any subject that relates to perceptions of the nature of God, the
consort of YHWH is the subject of debate among scholars.
