Yigal:

KRH means to provide, furnish. It does not specify the means by which the
provision is made. In Hosea 3:2 and Deuteronomy 2:6 the provision is through
purchase. In Genesis 50:5 again no digging was involved in that he was buried
in a natural cave that was on the property in which his father and
grandfather were buried. In 2 Kings 6:23 that which was provided was a meal,
or provisions? In 2 Kings 12:6 the participial form is used for provisions
for those who are on duty, in this case priests in the temple. True, it is
often used for providing or furnishing a pit or well, but as can be seen
above, digging is not part of the definition of the word itself, but the
unspoken means by which the provision is often made. In an English context
not connected with Tanakh, I have seen the sentence “We provided a well for
him.”

What is the best way to translate the term in each context? I’ll leave that
for translators.

As for K)RY, I don’t deny the possibility that something may have been lost,
a copiest error perhaps, but as the text presently stands “as a lion” does
not fit. We can speculate, but I am looking for evidence.
