I haven't been following this thread very closely, but why "syncretism"?
Henotheism, or monolatry, would be a much more accurate description.
Monotheism, though it orignated in First Temple times, didn't become the
religion ofd all the Jews until well into the Second Temple Period, as
evidenced by the Elephantine papyri.
In view of all the studies on ANE suzerainty treaties, does anyone still
seriously claim that the Ten Commandments are monotheistic?
