In 1 Sam 1:20 the text does not say that "Samuel" means "asked of God." It
says that Hannah said she named him Samuel because she requested (_$)L_)
him from God. Perhaps she was taking the shin from _$)L_, attaching it to
_M-)L_, and varying the vocalization. It's a reach, but an etymological pun
nonetheless.

We struggle to understand the language straight, it wouldn't be a surprise
if we are slow to catch on to the intricacies of punning in names. Names
sometimes employ cultural obscurities and subtle logic. People who don't
know Qwerty would wonder why the typist named her daughter Pointesa.
