I am not aware of any "extra-biblical source" existing before the second
century BCE in regards to "pin-pointing" what region Ur of the Chaldees is
in.

How about Herodotos. It is a long shot but he does say that the Phoenicians
(and in book seven he appears to extend this comment to include the Syrians
of Palestine) migrated from the Erythean sea (the Indian Ocean which also
included the Persian Gulf) to this part of Syria. He may have spoken to a
Jewish scholar soon after 450 BC when he went up the Syrian coast after
departing from Egypt. This same scholar was the source for his mention of
Sanakharibos.
