Dear Eric,
I should have mentioned that due to the paucity of adjectives in
Hebrew it is standard to show adjectival relationships by the use of the
construct genitive, and Gesenius' Hebrew Grammar 128p specifically mentions
(WOLAM as one of the nouns used this way. Other possible renderings for
MELEK HA(WOLAM are: the everlasting king, the ancient king, the enduring
king. The Hebrew and English Lexicon of the Old Testament refers to the
word as indicating the indefinite, unending future, as well as continuous
existence. For the basic noun the lexicon lists: long duration, antiquity,
and futurity.
