Could I ask for your opinion, and for the opinion of others, as the
relative merits and demerits of this book and Waltke & O'Connor's
"Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Syntax"?>>

Having studied with Bruce Waltke I admire his work and use his grammar
quite often, as I do Jouon-Muraoka, _A Grammar of Biblical Hebrew_. I
recommend van der Merwe because it is based upon a more advanced linguistic
theory and is written with an appreciation of the constraints that
discourse places on Hebrew syntax. On Waltke & O'Connor I refer you to
Walter Bodine's review in _Hebrew Studies_ a few years ago.
