Hello,
This is Phyllis Forrest in Lake County, Ohio.
We have a 20 member mounted ERT (Emergency Response Team, or SAR) who assist
our Ranger Department. We provide their training, some of their equipment,
etc. The ERT is part of a larger group of 40 Vol. Posse members who patrol,
direct traffic, do programs, and ride in parades for us.
It's a shame there isn't someone in your group who could meet with members
of the Law Enforcement community and possibly persuade them to use your
groups as auxilliaries, as it sounds like you would be a wonderful resource
for them. If you come to them well organized, have all of your training and
safety issues well documented, and can convince them that you would be an
asset to their organization'department, they could cover you under a
volunteer insurance wich is fairly inexpensive.
Just a thought...good luck.

Hi Marie,

LE stands for law enforcement, either police, sheriff, or other. I'm
glad you are insured by your LE. We're still looking for a company that
will cover us. I've contacted some and of the very few who are willing to
write a policy, the prices were too high for us to afford coverage. I don't
even have liability for my dogs because Citizen's Insurance ( a state run
last alternative for homeowners) won't cover them. And the LE agencies
would not even consider covering us. Nor would they allow us to use their
radios. Enjoy your blessings.

Mike
