It seems to me - and I'm no expert - that if the heat sink isn't
insulated then you'll end up trying to heat the whole earth :-)

As i suspected, if your return temps are much cooler than input temps,
and if they don't equalize over time, then you must be loosing too
much heat to the earth or sky.
