hi WXYC listeners!
hope y'all had a nice week.  things are picking up on campus as the semester winds to a close, but if there's anyone who knows how to take a load off, it's WXYC DJs.  let's see what's in store for our specialty programming this week:

This week on Hell or High Water, we will be delving into the SFC's archive to pay homage to the Meade Guthrie collection. From the collection's description, "Guthrie "Gus" Turner Meade, Jr., was a computer programmer and systems analyst with a lifelong interest in folk music, especially traditional country music and Kentucky fiddlers. Meade avidly collected records and corresponded with record collectors, discographers, and music scholars around the world. He spent his summers recording and interviewing Kentucky fiddlers." Tune in from 1pm-2pm this Sunday and we'll see what all we can get into.

From the bioelectrical fields of plants, to the din of public spaces; from his own stream-of-consciousness ramblings, to the sounds of broken violins - Adam Bohman's tape collages have eclectic sources, but his wit and his knack for synthesis have been a constant throughout his decades-long career. Tune into Broken Music, this Sunday at 2 pm, and hang out with Adam for an hour.

On Sports Rap this week, we'll discuss UNC men's basketball's first official game against NC Central, Homecoming against Pitt, and lots of fun NBA stuff. We'll also talk a bit more about the athletic-academic scandal — specifically, The Daily Tar Heel's revelations about Jan Boxill and if we think the AFAM department has been unfairly scapegoated (almost definitely). Tune in for what should be a good show at 9 p.m.!

We're getting ethereal this week on the Outside Track, Monday Nights at 9 PM. Tune in this week to catch the new release from Norwegian freak pop geniuses Jenny Hval and Susanna.  Hval represents the dark arrangements on this release that recall her previous two full-lenths, while Susanna fills her roll as a ghostly, striking vocalist.  Sounds on this duo effort range from lovely ambient washes with almost holy vocals to harsh guttural screaming with destructive noise.  Both of these women have become somewhat of veterans in their Norwegian experimental scene so it is quite a pleasure to catch them together on this awesome release.  Tune in and check it out!
