Where are you watching the Duke game this week? With Le1f at Historic Playmakers Theatre? What's that, you say? He's not watching the game, but performing a show? Well, at least he won't injure PJ Hairston that way! If you're not going to watch the game, watch CUAB and WXYC presents Le1f live in concert! Details here: http://cuab.web.unc.edu/2013/02/06/february-13-le1f/

Then, on the NSE this Friday at 10, Yugen hosts Raleigh's F0XYr4bB!T on NSE. A new sound from Raleigh, F0XYr4bB!T AKA Kat Liang, will be playing live from the WXYC studios. Kat's sound is like 8-bit rainbow unicorn explosion dripping with ecstatic energy. If her sets at Kings and Nightlight are anything to go on we're in for a treat. Yugen will follow with an hour of chilled out bass and downtempo.

Sunday at 1 on Hell or High Water Gina B will be playing Carl Sandburg's recording of his book-length poem, "The People, Yes", which was published in 1936.  Sandburg is a lauded American poet, having won three Pulitzers.  "In beautiful and straight-forward prose, Sandburg takes an unrelenting and unforgiving look at the ways in which the people are continually betrayed by those wielding power or seeking it. However, Sandburg also expresses hope in this work – hope about the possibilities of democracy and the world in which we live. And hope, most especially, in the people – in their power to persevere, to move forward, to prevail."  Hear a sample of the poem here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPzdgdhzTTY and listen in on Sunday from 1pm-2pm for the whole thang.

At 2 on Broken Music, David H will play the work of the Sonic Catering Band, a trio dedicated to producing works using sounds sourced from their vegetarian meals. In addition to food sounds, the group utilizes the sounds of kitchen untensils as well as incorporating elements of food science. Sonic Catering Band meal goes uneaten. Tune in at 2pm.

At 5 on this semester's first WXYC REPORTS, tune in for an hour focused on The Price Tag of Education. Several pieces take a look at the many mechanisms that change that one seemingly simple number listed under price. In our show we will take a look at what people think is making the cost of education rise, the role of merit scholarships, recent changes to the way UNC has approached financial aid, alternatives to traditional 4-year universities, and other pieces.

Then, at 8, after a short break featuring Don Spooky last week, SportsRap is back with more to talk about; and with football dead & gone (until August), the panel dives full force into basketball. First with a recap of UNC basketball and their slate of games over the past couple weeks, as well as a preview to the Wednesday rivalry game with Dook (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEn2MiEDcZU). All that and some NBA on this week's SportsRap.

At 10, PLUNDERPHONICS continues, with Zach G taking charge. Tune in for 2 hours of deep, open-ended listening and very, very gnarly vibes.

Finally, on Thursday at 9pm on the TNF, it's Valentine's day, and Ryan S is going to be playing three hours of Mississippi blues from the Delta and beyond. Everyone from Robert Johnson to B.B. King will be played, so it's perfect if you're alone or looking for some post-Duke-game music.

Sports,
JJ
