ROBERT QUINE on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday 9 p.m.-midnight
This week we will showcase the work of Robert Quine, a guitarist who is
best known for playing with Richard Hell and the Voidoids and Lou Reed.
He has also appeared on albums by Brian Eno, Matthew Sweet, and John Zorn.
In addition to his numerous appearances on others' albums, he has also
released two albums under his own name -- 1984's "Basic" with Fred Maher
and 1997's "Painted Desert" with Ikue Mori and Marc Ribot. Tune in
tonight to learn more about the work of one of rock's most underrated
guitar heroes.

SWEET TRIP, "velocity:design:comfort" on the Inside Track, Friday 9 p.m.
Second album for Darla from this San Francisco trio is awash in lush
Cocteau Twins/My Bloody Valentine guitars, adding hard-edge electronic
glitch and beat programming for maximum synaptic tingle.

DEEP ELLUM AND DALLAS BLUES on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1 p.m.
As the nexus for many East Texas musicians during the 1920s and 1930s, the
Deep Ellum area of downtown Dallas contained clubs, pawnshops, and other
black owned businesses servicing both black and white patrons. During
that time Dallas also served as a recording center for major race labels
such as Okeh, Vocalion, Brunswick and Paramount, which sent scouts and
engineers to record local artists. Musicians from all over the south
flocked to Dallas hoping to be recorded, living and working in the area
around Deep Ellum. While Blind Lemon Jefferson, Lightnin' Hopkins, and
Leadbelly all had connections to Deep Ellum. Other important blues
musicians also resided and recorded in the area, including T-Bone Walker,
Black Ace, Henry Thomas, and Whistlin' Alex Moore, vocalists Hattie
Burleson, Lillian Glinn, and Ida Mae Mack, plus string and jug bands like
Frenchy's String Band, the Dallas String Band, and the Dallas Jamboree Jug
Band. We'll explore the early Dallas recordings of these artists and
others on this week's show.

FROG EYES, "The Golden River" on the Inside Track, Monday 9 p.m.
Second outing from Victoria, BC's hottest new commodity when it comes to
howling-madman-rock'n'roll-cabaret-insanity, recalling the distinguished
likes of The Birthday Party and Tom Waits. Out on Animal World Recordings.
