CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA, "Man With a Movie Camera" on the Inside Track, Friday
9 p.m.
Living up to their name, Jason Swinscoe and company provide the
soundtrack for the 1929 classic Soviet documentary directed by Dziga
Vertov from which the disc takes its name. Originally performed by the
ensemble at the 1999 Porta Film Festival, this set shows more of a
traditional jazz bent than on their previous outings, but with all the
trippy beats that make them so mod and groovy still in tow. Out on Ninja
Tune.
Randy Bickford of THE STRUGGLERS on-air on the Backyard Barbeque, Sunday 7
p.m.
Chapel Hill resident Randy Bickford of The Strugglers will be in the
studio this Sunday getting to know you and playing a tune or two in the
meanwhile. The Strugglers are playing at Go! Room 4 on Monday, July 14
with Hotel Motel.
CLIENTELE, "The Violet Hour" on the Inside Track, Monday 9 p.m.
The debut full-length (after a slew of shorter releases) by this London
trio, demonstrating that they've more than got that wistful throwback pop
steez down pat. We can thank Merge for this one.
