NELS CLINE SINGERS, "Instrumentals" on the Inside Track, Wednesday 9 p.m.
Prolific jazz guitarist and composer Nels Cline is back with yet another
project, ironically called the Nels Cline Singers - ironic because the
album features only guitar, bass, and various forms of acoustic and
electric percussion. Accompanied by drummer and loops/processing wizard
Scott Amendola and bassist Devin Holt, Cline turns in one of his most
strongest and most innovative efforts to date.

WXYC ANNIVERSARY FEATURE, 1977-82, on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday
9 p.m.-midnight
As part of WXYC's continuing commemoration of our 25th anniversary, this
week's Thursday Night Feature will be devoted to the years 1977-82. A
panel of WXYC alumni from those years will be in the studio, spinning some
of the same tunes that they spun when they were XYC DJs. The hosts of
long-ago favorite XYC programs "Anarchy in the PM" and "The Chainsaw
Hayride" are among the DJs expected to participate.

ANTIBALAS, "Talkatif" on the Inside Track, Friday 9 p.m.
Brooklyn Afro-beat collective Antibalas is back with a new LP to follow
the success of last year's "Liberation Afro-Beat Volume 1." This 15-plus
piece band, rocking in the tradition of Fela Kuti, blends horns, bass and
polyrhythmic breaks and beats. On Ninja Tune Records.

THE SOUNDS OF GOSPEL on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1-2 p.m.
This week's Hell or High Water brings you Southern gospel music from the
archives of UNC's Southern Folklife Collection. We'll explore gospel in
all its varieties, from white country harmony groups to rousing
African-American church choirs.

DUSTY SPRINGFIELD, "Dusty in Memphis" on the Classic Inside Track, Sunday
2-3 p.m.
This week on the Classic Inside Track we will be listening to Dusty
Springfield's blue-eyed soul masterpiece of 1969, "Dusty in
Memphis." Though a commercial disappointment upon its release, "Dusty in
Memphis" spawned the hit single "Son of a Preacher Man" and has come to be
regarded as the British diva's finest album, seamlessly fusing pop
sensibilities with raw Motown emotion.

Various Artists, "YOU DON'T NEED DARKNESS TO DO WHAT YOU THINK IS
RIGHT" on the Inside Track, Monday 9 p.m.
"You Don't Need Darkness To Do What Is Right" is the first compilation
from the Scottish-based Domino imprint Geographic, headed by The Pastels'
Stephen McRobbie. It's a collection of tracks from major underground
artists such as The Pastels and Kevin Shields (of My Bloody Valentine) and
newer acts such as Sister Vanilla (featuring the Jesus and Mary Chain's
Reid brothers) and Japanese folkists Maher Shalal Hash Baz.

Also this week and every week:

Friday, 9 p.m.

Sunday 10 a.m.-1 p.m
