still at lease a week or so from completion. I am working on resolving two
issues.
a) trimming some uneccessary depends in basesystem and from "image.tar.bz2"
and
b) trying to find an elegant way of using individual spells tarballs instead
of the big image.tar.bz2.
The first because a lot of spells, bison, flex, autoconf, automake, m4,
libtool, etc, are only needed during actual casting of a few specific spells,
there is no runtime dependency on them so they don't actually need
installing. The kernel can be built without them and IMO that is the only
prerequisite for inclusion on the ISO I think. A fresh install , aside from
actually being functional must only be capable of building a kernel and
connecting to the internet, if a spell isn't needed for that first step after
install then it can be downloaded, cast and installed after the network
connection has been made.
The second will allow
i) upgrades/ updates with each new ISO release, if people so wish
ii) a better functioning rescue environment, you can just "rescue" the one
spell you have broken instead of unpacking the entire image and manually
copying individual files.

I will be looking at your work on the live cd soon to help me streamline
usage
as a rescue disc and to help with configuration during install too.

Of course there will be an announcement when it is ready for testing .
