hi

I also was struck down with 'the curse of the fast respawning virtual
consoles' when performing a fresh install. it happened when i executed
'sorcery rebuild' then rebooted. I managed to fix it... i don't know how but
here's roughly what i did:

reboot using the smgl cd (20020701), choose 'continue booting' from the
initrd thingy

open a shell

make a directory in /mnt, mount my root partition on it then chroot to it

mount /proc, /devices and other required partitions (/home and /boot for me)

make sure i have all required sources in /var/spool/sorcery by scp-ing them
from another box

cast -r init.d
dispel linux-vanilla
cast linux
nano /etc/lilo.conf
lilo
cast --fix
reboot

it seemed to work for me. i may have left something out here as i wan't
taking notes, and the re-casting of the linux kernel would seem to be
un-related (i just hated that 'spell linux-vanilla not found' error in cast
--fix). i think i also touched modules.dep for the 2.4.18-xfs kernel to avoid
other annoying errors.

i hope this helps. i'm currently installing another box so i expect to have
the same problem in a few hours, this time i'll take notes :)
