Triggers for statically-linked stuff is good. I want to know that I'm
using only one library version if possible after a cast --fix. Fewer
security worries, fewer old bugs creeping in. Let's say they stop
auditing old zlibs and a spell is never updated ... we could have a
security vuln for a long time on somebody's box and not even know it
despite good code-auditing practices.
Scripts for rebuilding depends (static, esp.) after security vuln is good.
For obvious reasons.
Triggers to make sure things get built in the proper order because we
don't have installed spell ordering is bad.
Ordering installed spells by depends is good. The user shouldn't have to
be required to know what depends on what so she[0] is forced to reorder
by hand.
We can't remove those triggers until that bug is fixed and update-like
situations are ordered though. What triggers other than zlib (which
should be updated on everybody's boxes by now!) should we remove? I still
think we should keep the static zlib triggers, unless cast --fix can know
how to check that a zlib was compiled statically into a spell -- I don't
know how automatable that is.
[0] hopeless optimism
