Hmm I'm not happy with my previous answer. It's more than a little trite, and
an appeal to the rules isn't necessarily the greatest argument on the plant. I
still hold the same view though.

Adding a wrapper to dhcpcd is adding complexity; not much, but a little. A
distro like Debian is already jam-packed with these little unexpected bits of
complexity, and if you like to follow man pages or documentation from the
original site then you've got to go find that little bit of distro-specific
gristle, and find out what it's doing to what you're trying to do. You
shouldn't have to dive through multiple layers of documentation and even code
to get a single task done. You should certainly not be thrown off course by
your distro. This is why I defend SMGL policy so strongly.

I'm also wondering if and why anyone would actually need to use dhcpcd with
debian ifupdown. I assumed not when I wrote my longer post. There are other
DHCP client daemons, does dhcpcd have anything they lack?
