Finally, for me a huge benefit would be if I could make any changes in
devel that I can think of, including upgrading php-pear (not trivial),
and then one a week simply say "merge my last changes in devel grimoire
into test." I guess it's possible in Subversion using your "An elder's
breakfast" procedure (man, what's up with just numbering them :-)?).

You mean p4 integ
devel/php-pear/...@myweekoldchangesetsrange,myweekoldchangesetsreang
test/php-pear/...

That's a good catch, but you forgot "-d" I think. And there needs to be a script to list all my changes for last week, which is true for Subversion as well (and any other system I believe).

Acctually I like p4 edit and p4 revert and such... Whenever I issue the
"p4 edit" command my brain activates and acctually thinks on what I'm doing...

I ussualy do any edits first in the current castalble grimoires and then when
I'm happy
with them just p4 edit that spell and copy the stuff in...

Having to remember what I edited is an inconvenience to me rather than anything else. It's much easier for me to ask the SCM what I edited than to remember it. Same for new or deleted files. It's especially true for php-pear where an upgrade produces an unknown number of new spells.

Sergey.
