I added the following lines to udev.rules. They should be completely generic
and work on my system with a Plextor cdrw and Agfa scanner.
BUS="scsi", KERNEL="sr*", NAME="%k", SYMLINK="cdrom%n"
BUS="scsi", SYSFS{type}="6", NAME="%k", SYMLINK="scanner%n"
Maybe udev.permissions needs adjusting as well
