has the ability to find SATA drives as well?
These types of drives appear to becoming more popular and so maybe this
should perhaps
be addressed as well.

Unfortunately I think this is a limitation of our installer, it specifically
uses /dev/discs/* but a scsi system using devfs would be /dev/scsi/*
You could manually partition by using the correct path from the shell
fdisk /dev/scsi/*/*/disc*
then mount it to /mnt/root (and any other partitions to /mnt/root/*)
I am surprised this hasn't been noticed before.
I will file a bug that will hopefully get fixed in 0.9
