has anyone managed to get a linux-2.6.0-test4 kernel which uses modules
working with the new init system and devfs?

I even updated module-init-tools-0.9.14-pre2

When I tried this, it seems to hang at the point at which I would expect it
to
start loading modules, after identifying the various ide-disks and a ps/2
mouse port, but no mention of network support. I haven't been able to save
this log.

Several months ago I had a 2.5.x kernel working without modules

Incidentally, there seems to be a move to make devfs obsolete in 2.6, to be
replaced by something called udev.
