/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config.98
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config.eg
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/html/XF86Config.5.html
/usr/X11R6/man/man5/XF86Config.5x

Grab /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config.eg and copy it to /etc/X11/XF86Config,
then modify to fit your needs. See 'man XF86Config' or the .html file
listed above for specifics.

X does a pretty good job of auto configuring the monitor nowadays, but if
you have problems (probably due to the framebuffer), use 'fbset -x' to get
some sane mode lines to add to your "Monitor" section in the XF86Config
file.
