I opened a bug last night about the new pango (1.0.5) not installingsome
libs that it used to (libpangoxft2.so.0 or something like that). This
causes things like gnome-session and other spells for gnome2 to fail. If
you thinkg pango is the problem, try downgrading to 1.0.4.
