The problem here is that xchat and gnomexmms depends (perhaps
optionally) on gnome-core, which is a gnome-1.4 package. This package
was split up into gnome-session, gnome-desktop, gnome-panel and
gnome-terminal in gnome-2.0. So each of these new packages conflict with
gnome-core, and gnome-core conflicts with all of the new ones.
So what happened is that when you 'cast xchat', the gnome-core
dependency was invoked, and the new packages were removed.
Doing a 'gaze depends gnome-core' will give you a list of the packages
that you've got installed that might cause trouble.
I'm sorry about these problems, they're a bit hard to avoid with our
current conflicts code.
