If you do a 'gaze depends gnome-core' first, and then either dispel or
cast -r -c the spells listed (i.e. don't select gnome-core if it's
optional), it SHOULD be ok. That would atleast take care of 99% of the
things that i know usually break (mostly stuff with optional panel
applets).
