I believe one of the requirements for a commit is that it was tested
and works with the default version (and default settings) of a
package. ;)

That's true, but now I'm wondering which version you are implying is the
"default". glibc-2.7, or glibc-2.8? It seems that George had already
tested against 2.8, but he wasn't able to test against 2.7 until later,
and he was pointing out that he doesn't usually test against *multiple*
versions. Is 2.7 the default version, and he should have tested against
that instead?

Perhaps I misunderstood (if so, sorry George :)). I thought George had only tested this patch with glibc 2.8. The default glibc is 2.7, which, from what I understood, George did *not* test. I was saying that 2.7 should have been the minimum version to test, with 2.8 an extra bonus. ;)
