Permaculture is a design system. It is, or should be, a system that
includes implementation of all permaculture designs, down to the last
detail of construction, long-term maintenance and sustainability and the
how-to with all the necessary toolkits brought to bear. The best way to
spread permaculture is by building systems that can be demonstrated to
work, ones that enable people to feed themselves and stay healthy, build
affordable energy-efficient shelter and unite communities of people who
successfully do this. A permaculture design should be made up of components
that are proven to work, that can be built by those the design is intended
for using information toolkits that are included. The best possible array
of features should make up a design, based on, among other things site
considerations and features, climate and setting whether it be farm,
forest, rural, suburban, urban or apartment. Designer knowledge of how
things work and how things are built is critical to the success of a design.
