Bio sand filter - Using a 2 litre PET bottle (before SODIS) - YouTube

Here is a cheap way to make a good bio sand filter, capable of removing all
turbidity and also bacteria to some extent.
At www.biome-solutions.com there is a platform for students to intern and
learn what simple water treatment systems are and what good quality water
means to the community.
In combination with SODIS (www.sodis.ch) ,this bio sand filter can be a
good treatment for water in flooded areas..

The only problem with this demo is the violent dripping water is disturbing
the critically important top layer of sand. You need to have a perforated
plate the same width as the biosand top layer. So that when you pour the
water in, it spreads out over the entire plate and gently drips from
underneath all over the plate to minimize disturbance of the protozoa and
microbes in the top layer of the biosand filter.
