As with any humanitarian attitude, the thought behind the third ethic
counts even if it cannot always be practiced.
Appears there's an ongoing social & political movement (at least in
the USA) that is working hard to undermine much of what most of us see
as valuable;
I learned what was valuable during the 60's and will never forget. A
quick look at these folks leaves me with the impression that
grassroots
humanity may be staring a new breed of corporate sponsored
totalitarian dictatorships in the face. The Baptists want to end the
practice of yoga
and the Burmese junta wants to build nuclear weapons. Don't even want
to think what plans corporate chemical/gmo/conventional industrial
agriculture
has in mind but here is a glimpse into the causes of CCD in bees;
really unthinkable that anyone would allow this to happen. Enough
permaculture should
stabilize the world but that will take a steady, concerted cooperative
effort from many millions of people working continuously. The study
done on the Ifugao
and their traditional farming practices is a good example of what
should be done and what the challenges are for those folks. The
website for a journalists
organization in the Phillipines provides good insights, from an on the
ground, real world perspective. Maybe Cory will find this interesting.
Well written reporting.

And on the causes of CCD in bees: (fungicide)

The evidence relating CCD and a virus along with the fungal parasite
Nosema is very strong.
However, the published studies have not looked at a thrid culprit the
systematic insecticide.
That chemical will reduce the bee's immunity to virus and parasite.
The final answer to CCD
is close but still does not say what weakens the bee's immunity to
both virus and parasite.
However, there is evidence that the insecticide is likely to be the
final piece of the puzzle,
what causes CCD?

Glenn Beck says 'collective salvation' is anti-American. Tell that to
the Founding Fathers

Opinion
Christian Science Monitor
New York – Fox News television host Glenn Beck says the idea of
“collective salvation” – that our fates are linked – is “dangerous to
the Constitutional republic.”
He argues that related notions of social justice, redistribution, and
ending oppression are fundamentally anti-American, communist creeds.
American’s Founding Fathers would disagree. They embraced collective
redemption and the protection of the common good.
