I have the blessing of several thousand feet of half-rotted cedar rail
fencing which seems too far gone to use to build or burn in the wood stove.

I'm wondering if making hugelkultur beds made predominantly with cedar rails
would make for a bed that is too acidic for most vegetable plants? I recall
in Gaia's Garden that Toby mentions using cedar posts to make beds for
blueberries which leads me to believe this to be true. If so, would I be
correct in assuming that sprinkling wood ash over top of the cedar would
mitigate the acidity? And if this is true, would the ash be best spread on
top of the soil/manure which is placed on top of the cedar? Maybe I just need
to think about planting a few acres of blueberries and cranberries...

Any light shed on this would be greatly appreciated,

Travis
