I always like to leverage off the knowledge of others, rather than learning
from scratch by myself. Do you know of any way to obtain seed for Prosopis
cineraria? Do you have friends among the Bisnoi (Bishnois?)?

Thanks for getting me going on this subject, Mitch. Turns out that P.
cineraria is a pretty fine tree for places like your central Texas (dry and
alkaline). It fixes nitrogen, makes great fodder, can be utilized in
apiculture (honey
production), stabilizes loose sand, cools the soil, makes good fence posts
and
house timbers and provides vegetables for the pot. Sorghum and millet
benefit
from its shade, and it is thought to confer soil fertility. It's salt and
drought tolerant.

Sounds like the vegetable version of the shmoo-- that old Al Capp invention
that laid eggs, tasted like chicken when fried or beef when roasted, and
jumped
into the pan on request.

They haven't found good ways to propagate it outside its native habitat
yet.
But it puts forth copious seeds and might be a good subject for study and
experiment.
