I haven't gardened on this lot long, but I noticed that a beautiful lily
bloomed right up against the tree trunk last year, and lilies are listed with
the plants that "do not grow within 50 feet." I didn't have great luck with
my vegetables in general, but who knows, it could have been due to not enough
sunlight, or the fact that I have slowly been improving the soil structure
(heavy red clay a couple of inches down) for only the past two years. Still,
I thought it was helpful, keeping in mind that it is observational in nature.
There seems to be something to the claim, although the results seem to be
different for different areas. I hope it is useful, but do take it "with a
grain of salt" and rely on your own observations.
