I don't know about the engineering questions, but...
A 1" thick shell of a complete sphere with 10 foot diameter has a
volume of 25 cubic feet. 3/4" thick = 19.4 cubic feet.
In my experience working with concrete the cost of the materials
pales into insignificance beside the cost of excavating, pouring
or spraying and finishing.
