Accredited Permaculture Training

2005 Course Information now available....

The 2005 Permaculture Education program at Djanbung Gardens will offer both
full-time (Austudy approved) and short courses in a wide range of subjects
and practical skills for people interested in
¨ Domestic and community self-reliance and earth-friendly living
¨ Sustainable land management, agro-ecology, sustainable farming and
landscaping
¨ Rural and urban permaculture design & implementation services
¨ Operating a small eco-business, cottage industry or ethical enterprise
¨ Community and bioregional development ­ rural and urban
¨ Seeking employment opportunities in permaculture and related fields of
work
¨ Teaching permaculture in schools and community education programs

Full time courses involve a minimum of 3 days per week. Those eligible can
apply for Austudy and students allowance for full-time training. Full time
training will be available for the following AQTF qualifications:
€ Certificate III in Permaculture (2 semesters) ­ implementation skills &
putting it into practice
€ Certificate IV in Permaculture (2 semesters) ­ farm & garden design,
community project facilitation
€ Diploma of Permaculture (3 semesters) ­ design and consulting,
ecovillage & community design and project management
Prior completion of a PDC is an essential prerequisite for these courses.
Internship options available for these programs at Djanbung Gardens or as
Wwoof/boarding placements with people living on local communities.

Short courses will be offered either as part-time programs of one or more
sessions conducted weekly over an extended period (5-8 weeks) or as
intensive day workshops or courses of 1-3 weeks duration. Those eligible can
apply for intensive assistance or use training credits towards course fees.
The complete short course program for Semester 1 2005 will be available late
2004.
PDC Dates for 2005: January 10-28, July 4-22nd, October 31-Nov 18th

Creative Learning
Djanbung Gardens is committed to quality training in a purpose-designed
venue with a 5 acre living classroom of working permaculture to facilitate
participatory and practical hands-on learning. Training will include
excursions and workplace experience with innovative alternative enterprises
in the bioregion, WWOOFing options and taking on innovative assessment
projects.

While meeting the requirements of accredited vocational training, the
courses will include a wide range of practical skills training in
¨ Traditional food processing & storage such as ferments, conserves,
making flour from cassava and arrowroot
¨ Growing and storing food for year-round supply
¨ Growing, harvesting and treating a range of craft materials including
weaving fibres, natural dyes, bamboo, luffas and gourds, and basic training
in associated crafts
¨ Working with natural building materials and alternative technology
including cob oven, strawbale, earth and bamboo construction, composting
toilet and grey-water treatment systems
¨ Traditional herb-lore with medicinal, culinary and fragrant herbs,
making ointments, herbal first aid and herbal treatments for animals.

Assessment projects will involve a diverse range of activities from
planning, organising and promoting community events, through to designing
and implementing real permaculture projects on your own (or someone else¹s)
property or garden.
