Bioneers Presents:
Natural Patterns and Permaculture Principles: Ecological Design Workshop
With Toby Hemenway and Larry Santoyo
Tunitas Creek Ranch, Half Moon Bay, CA
September 10-12, 2004
Two exceptional Permaculture teachers, Toby Hemenway, author of Gaia's Garden, A Guide to Home Scale Permaculture, and Larry Santoyo, one of the most experienced Permaculture designers and teachers in the U.S., will present a system of practical techniques that develop the skills of ecological design. The workshop will empower you to work with the land and apply design principles that increase the diversity, resilience and harmony of your own home-landscape or farm.
The beautiful landscape of Tunitas Creek Ranch is made up of steep slopes, riparian corridors, pastures, high ridges, small orchards, an abundance of native vegetation, and some invasive species. All of which will be used as part of the learning experience of assessing landscape, observing and understanding natural patterns, the multi functions of nature, and the interrelatedness of organisms and their environment. By the end of the program everyone will have an opportunity to do an actual design using the principles and techniques presented.
Toby Hemenway is the author of the first major North American book on permaculture, Gaia's Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture, and associate editor of Permaculture Activist, a journal of ecological design and sustainable culture. Toby teaches permaculture and consults and lectures on ecological design throughout the country. His writing has appeared in magazines such as Whole Earth Review, Natural Home, and Kitchen Gardener
Larry Santoyo has taught environmental design courses at universities nationwide, including UC Berkeley and California State Polytechnic University. Since 1983, he has assisted private individuals in the design and installation of residential ecosystems and has assisted companies in developing industrial ecologies and sustainable business practices Larry serves as the senior planner for Earthflow Design Works, a principal in the land management group Open Circle LLC, and the co-director of The Terra Foundation. He is also the founder of the Permaculture MicroVillage Network and is the creative director at The Center of Natural Design.
