There is some stimulating, thought-provoking discussion on this list. It is useful because it allows us to bounce ideas off one another, itself a useful way to work out what we really think and to modify our beliefs/ assumptions in light of new information and the ideas of others. As someone said, this is the 'culture' of permaculture.

Now here's some good news. It's practical permaculture in action and it happens in Sydney where it is organised through the UNSW Ecoliving Centre.

It's the 'Cool Communities' programme, itself a child of the Australian government's National Greenhouse Office. As the notification following shows, it is a self-help team approach to addressing energy-use reduction and food self-reliance in the suburbs. Participants assist with three makeovers to become eligible for a makeover at their own place.

It is reminiscent of a scheme in rural Victoria in the 1980 in which people got assistance in the building of their earth-construction houses in a similar way....

Hurstville on Thursday 17th July. First day of a major makeover
that will be filmed by Totally Wild TV. We will be fitting energy
& water saving devices, building a chook house/run, installing
a greywater system & organic gardens!
