I wonder if much (or any) is really saved. Feeding the stove cold outside
air means some of the heat energy from the burning wood is lost in warming
the colder air going into it, one way or another. Might not burn as hot
(and thus as efficient) either, if incoming air is *really truly* cold.
Six of one, half a dozen (or maybe seven) of another.

Anyone have access to heavy-duty physics modeling software and wanna try
this one out? ;-)

You make a decent point here. My notion is that if you can keep from drawing air from all over the house your not pulling cold air in windows, doors etc. far from the stove, thereby keeping the rest of the house warmer.
