Prosopis juliflora...
I would also appreciate any information on mesquite, as it is a common tree
here in our drylands, unfortunately weedy and with definite allelopathic
effect on our native brush. It is taking over most waterways in vast
mono-stands.
I am concerned about possible allelopathic effects on the material when
used as mulch-- seems to be no problem, but do not have definite answers
yet.
By the way I understand that mequite is appreciated in barbecues in the
Southwest USA. Is that from fresh wood or charcoal? Anyone know?
Also would appreciate recipes of any of you desert dwellers. They give the
pods to goats here ( who from time to time have dislocated jaws from it!)
but it has not been yet accepted as people food, this in a region where
there can be real hunger in the dry years...
Thanks
