There are RSS feeds for content-driven websites but some of these offer XML
feeds.
What exactly are the implications for this?

Definitions of XML Feed on the Web:
* A simplified version of HTML that allows data to be sent to search
engines in the format that they can interpret.

* Also referred to as Trusted Feed. A process where web pages are fed into the search engine index for maximum keyword exposure. More commonly used for database driven sites where multiple search queries can apply.
