Glad to hear a good word for the Azarole! I may order one. I picked up a
Chinese Hawthorn last winter, and it already has had a bout with fireblight.
I cut off the affected branches and am hoping it will recover, but it's a bad
sign for its disease resistance. Too bad; I really like the taste.
I found my copy of Phipps. C. scabrifolia is the edible hawthorn used by the
southern Chinese.

We have grown Azarole in zone 6 with no hardiness problem. There is some
quince rust but still we get a good crop. Available at Hidden Springs along
with Mayhaw. We have serious quince rust problems with Chinese hawthorn,
most of fruit is too damaged to use. Hector Black zone 6 middle tn
