Due to harvesting and storage problems mulberry could never establish as an commercial orchard fruit in India though it is one of the tastiest things on earth. We have several varieties of white and red or black mulberries in India. So this fruit has either been a fruit of children who could climb the trees, usually on village common lands and also near irrigation wells, and enjoy the fruits. I have done it during my childhood days. Or mulberry has been a fruit of rich landlords having servants to pick fresh fruits in the morning every day and use them. So this fruit has always been a delicacy in India. As the tree is one of the easiest to multiply and grow, so it always finds place at government research orchards and commercial nurseries. I DO NOT think that it has any scope as a commerciual orchard fruit.

We've sold mulberries (Ill. Everbearing) at the local Farmer's Market. Biggest problem for us was they are very tender and survive only minimum handling. Don't keep well even with refrigeration.
I was trying pollarding, because it seemed the best way to reach the fruit. Keep to 5 ft. or so height and remove branches after 3,4 years. But the deer had other ideas. Broke all the grafts. The love the foliage. I hope someone can work out a system. Hector Black zone 6 middle tn

I've seen mulberries at the farmers market here in New Mexico sold by the
plastic cup with I think the intent that you eat them immediately. I have
also seen them sold by the basket in a farm store in Oregon. Neither of
them were in large quantity. I have a couple of vague impressions that may
be relevant. It seems like the flavor may change with the length of time off
the tree, and they seem like they are more like the short shelf life rather
than longer shelf life berries. That said I never have enough to even make
it into the house with them.
