That sounds awfully cheap for chicken wire. Where can you buy it at that
price?

Also, if the snow is deep in winter, you may have to trample it down around the fence, or shovel, or the rabbits will go right over.
In the summer, 12" fence seems to be fine, but in winter they seem to jump
right over it...

I should have mentioned that this year I decided to give up on trapping
rabbits and just fence off plantings with chicken wire. 12" or 18" rolls
with 1" spaces seem to work fine and are pretty affordable at farm supply
stores. I think a 150' 18" roll cost me about $22.

what works for rabbits?

I personally don't have much experience trapping rabbits. But my neighbor
some years back had about 40 acres fenced in where he kept field rabbits
for
training rabbit dogs. Hawks were his worst problem and he need to
continually replenish them. He used rabbit traps baited with salt and corn.
I
cheerfully let him place traps on my acreage and he was successful! Salt&
field
corn.

In case any rabbit huggers read this, he had shelters and many brush piles
for the rabbits to hide in. He also had feeding stations, water holes and
salt stations for them. They were treated well, just occasionally they had
to
run from the dogs. He never shot them. They were almost in rabbit heaven.
They faired better there with his dogs then here with my coyotes.
