I had to make a pagewire cage for a few of my trees that my cats were
scratching to bits! They were supposed to be catching the mice, but I think
the dog we got rid of a few weeks ago put the kibosh on that because he
chased those poor cats every time they left the shelter of the barns. The 18
mo old pup also started in on my goats which is why he was promptly re-homed
(he was on his last chance after I had to stitch up a goat last year) and now
I am seeing my cats out mousing in my orchard again... bit too late for my
girdled trees, but maybe this will be the worst year for damage I'll see.
I like the sound of raspberry cane mulch, but I just put in a new patch of
raspberries this year and won't have any canes to chop up for a while.
