- Subject: [NAFEX] Ash and Ash Borer
- Date: Sat, 26 Mar 2011 19:27:46 -0400
Folks:
This may not be the best group to ask this question but at least I know that any answers that I do get will be thought-out.
1) Does anyone know if ash trees are a good coppicing crops?
2) Does anyone know if ash borers require a minimum trunk diameter for effective survival?
I know that there are some insect pests that simply don't survive as well in small diameter branches and trunks as they do in large diameter ones. It occurred to me that, if this is the case with emerald ash borer and if ash trees coppice well, then it might be possible to keep some ashes alive by coppicing them on a regular schedule. Admittedly, it's a survival tactic but it might help some of us keep some ashes alive until a more thorough solution is developed.
Thanks,
Geoffrey Tolle
