Interesting! I'm not too sure about bio-remedial issues but I'll bet it also
reduces Winter rodent girdling as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't know how many trees you are talking about, but we don't have any
problems with borers since we started using mothballs around the base of
young trees. ALL young trees.
in our climate, since there is a second brood mid summer, we replace moth
balls around end of June.
hope this helps.
we use about 4-5 for young tree, close up against the trunk, can throw a bit
of dirt over them, they still work.
