I use wood shavings and chips for the floor of my duck shed and quarterly
shovel it out as mulch and top dressing. After planting two dozen saffron
crocus corms last Fall, I mulched 'em with chopped leaves and shavings/chips
from the duck shed. Just checked before reading this and found 21 crocuses
busting thru the cover to the light, looking strong.
Go for it.

Dave Liezen, E. WA, zone 6 - where we're above 50 degrees for the third day
running. The English Morello is finally swelling buds.
