My son lives in the Orlando area. Next time I visit I would like maybe to
meet someone who fruits around there?

I agree with betsy,

I have found the favor will intensify a bit the longer you leave it on the
tree. When the fruit first light turns a ruddy red and a dark proper red...
and a week or two it will sofen a bit. This is the stage that I get the most
flavor.

I have made a very nice jam with them. I think jam taste better than out of
hand, though both are pleasant.

What is your favorite use of the fruit?

I remember trying one years ago, and it was insipid.
Maybe the one I tried was not representative.

Michele,

To my taste it is mildly sweet, pleasant. Kind of a watermelon flavor.
Strange, rough external texture, similar to a peach. Not as good a
flavor as its relatives mulberry and fig.

I like that it is a decent sized fruit (very large grape-sized), pest
free (so far), undemanding culture, seedless, different. I have only
eaten my few fruits fresh off the tree. However, I plan to try drying,
preserving it, etc. it to see if I can intensify the flavor. Hopefully
I will get more fruit this year and will be able to explore in the
kitchen!

If you have had cudrania for a wile or you hav hear A.J. Bullard's talk on
them,
you will know that after some years the base Osage orange will out grow the
cudrania and the graft will begin to brake.

I was wondering anyone had done any repair grafts to this of other trees to
exend the life.

I have read about inarching or bride graft, but I have never seen it done.

Michele, I agree with Betsy. I'm struggling here in zone 5 to establish a
tree. I've lost about 6 over the last decade, but did harvest a few fruits
over
the years. They ripen here in October, which is a good time to be harvesting
fruit as most of what I grow is done by then.

I intend to keep trying. A few years ago, I tried to locate some seeds from
trees being grown in cooler zones, the idea being to try to establish
seedling
on their own roots.

You should be able to grow them in zone 6 without too many problems.

John
